With XC World Championships, Olympic Gold, and more Cape Epic wins than you can count, it's clear that the focused and cutting-edge Specialized S-Works Epic 29 holds nothing back when it comes to getting you over the line in first. The state-of-the-art FACT 11m-carbon frame is not only light, it's super stiff for lightning-fast accelerations and pinpoint handling. Enhancing the incredible frame is a Brain-controlled suspension along with a revolutionary 100mm-travel RockShox RS-1 fork that sports an inverted design that offers superior stiffness, while behaving with more sensitivity to small bumps and more control over larger hits. Drivetrain duties are handled by the revolutionary Shimano XTR Di2 11-speed groupset, the first ever electronic mountain groupset, which provides unparalleled shifting precision, reliability, and accuracy, making it the secret weapon in any racer's arsenal. Featherweight Roval carbon wheels make you feel like you're cheating, and wonderfully light, powerful Shimano XTR disc brakes have modulation to spare. Not stopping there, you get a world-class S-Works carbon seatpost, a carbon-railed Phenom Pro saddle and tubeless S-Works Fast Trak tires so you can add to the Epic's win count.
Specialized's FSR suspension offers plush travel, incredible control, unbeatable traction and an overall awesome ride because it's completely unaffected by pedaling and braking forces. This design also eliminates "bobbing" for optimum climbing and acceleration. You'll be amazed.
The Brain is the mastermind behind Specialized's ultra-efficient suspension designs. It automatically turns the suspension "on" and "off" almost instantaneously to always provide the perfect ride. It consists of an inertia valve mounted inside a near-vertical cylinder near the rear axle. The inertia valve controls the shock's ability to compress; the resulting system responds to terrain input (bumps and dips), but not to rider input (pedaling). Forces from the ground activate the inertia valve inside the Brain, which opens and allows the shock to absorb bumps. All Brains also feature Brain Fade technology, which by using the blue dial on top of the Brain cylinder, you can control the breakaway threshold of the inertia valve in your Brain from ultra rigid and efficient to super plush and active and anywhere in between. So you can set up your bike to climb and sprint like a hardtail and still absorb bumps for maximum control over rough terrain; the ideal combination for parlaying all your hard efforts into off-road speed.
This frame utilizes Specialized’s advanced FACT IS (Integrated Structure) construction method. By separating the frame into four main parts — the front triangle, seat tube/bottom bracket, chainstays and seatstays — Specialized is able to optimize each carbon piece for its specific purpose and create a structure that’s incredibly light, impeccably stiff and impressively strong.
